Jagatsinghpur shuts down following BJD’s Hartal.

JAGATSINGHPUR Apr 26. Normal life was on Friday disrupted in Jagatsinghpur and its adjoining areas due to a dawn to dusk Hartal called by BJD to protest union governments repeated apathy giving central funds to Odisha. Shops, educational institutions, remained closed during the Hartal hours; vehicular traffic also remained off road during the whole day in the district excluding two wheelers were plied normally. State government Offices, bank and insurance company offices were closed.. However essential services such as hospital, medicine shops, ambulance services, milk supply, water supply and news paper distribution were exempted from the ambit of the shut down. Moreover no untoward incident occurred anywhere in the district following the Hartal, police sources informed. District BJD president and senior MLA Bishnu Das described the Hartal received success on Friday and legislator has expressed his gratitude to denizens of Jagatsinghpur supporting the Hartal . NHRC special rap porter visits Posco site.

JAGATSINGHPUR Apr 26. The National Human Rights commissioner [NHRC] special rapporter Mr Damodar Sarangi on Friday visited proposed Posco site Govindapur, Nuagaon, Noliasahi, Bhuyanpala and Dhinkia villages and interacted with the local residents and witnessed the ongoing land acquisition process underway. Report said that allegations had been lodged at NHRC stating violation of human right laws during the land acquiring works. NHRC special envoy Mr Sarangi first stepped at Posco transit camp at Badagabapur where about 52 pro project driven out families are residing and expressed his unhappiness that the NHRC has already instructed state government to take step returning these families to their native Patana hamlet but till date nothing happened so he assured the victim families to take the matter to notice of NHRC after returning to New Delhi. Then the emissary moved to Noliasahi and Bhuyanpala and Polanga villages where several human rights violation complaints had received and he conducted spot probe. Before returning to Bhubaneswar the NHRC representative had visited Govindapur village where administration has started land acquisition and talked with betel vein owners those have been sacrificed their betel veins then moved to Dhinkia village recognized as anti Posco bastion where he discussed with project opponents with regard to allegations of human rights violation.
