AGATSINGHPUR July 02. A family living in Haripa village under Erasama area has been ostracized by residents past seven days following a mild theft incident occurred in village two weeks ago. The villagers have suspended all social communications to the victim family even public roads, tube well, school and Angan Wadi centre and shops have been barred for the family to purchase daily ration and medicine, ironically police have taken no step besides the victim family has lodged a complaint against the inhuman villagers.
Report said that the victim family head identified as Hadi Bandhu Das, a marginal farmer living in village with 9 kids. Two weeks ago a cycle theft incident had occurred in village, the residents had approached a local sorcerer to ascertain the identity of the thief, who divulged the villagers that Hadi Bandhu has committed the theft, later residents called a Gram Sabha where Hadi Bandhu defended denying his involvement in the theft incident, the angry villagers did not believe on the Hadi Bandhu’s pleading later they forcibly tied him in a rope. After the news reached Hadi Bandhu’s wife rushed to the Gram Sabha and pleaded her husband’s innocence but the agitated villagers blamed her coming to the residents gathering as a woman, where village women are strictly restricted to participate.
The meeting endorsed a resolution stating Hadi Bandhu family would be ostracized for his committing crime, and all social communications to the family put under suspension, even he was banned using village roads, shops, tube well, school and the decision effected immediately.

After the villagers ban we are spending a horrible life, consuming family ponds unhealthy water, our food stuffs and ration stored earlier have come to finish, children have been restricted going to local primary school and Angan Wadi centre, meanwhile we have lodged a complaint at Erasama police station four days ago but no action has taken yet, fumed victim Hadi Bandhu.

Meanwhile social activist and human rights lawyer Dr Sushant Kunongo had visited the victim family on Monday and enquired their condition and assured the matter would be intimated to the both state and National Human Rights commission and senior cops taking needful action.
On the other hand S B Bhoi district superintendent of police admitted a complaint has been received from the victim Hadi Bandhu and District Human Rights cell has been asked to probe the incident and action will be taken if anyone found guilty, SP informed.
