Excise sub inspector suspended for relocating a licensed liquor shop.

 Jagatsinghpur  july 20. An excise Sub Inspector [SI] Lachhaman Das was suspended and former district excise superintendent and inspector asked for facing departmental proceedings as they violated legal provisions and allowed a licensed liquor shop for shifting from Tarapur Bazar near Raghunathpur block area.

Report said that a licensed liquor shop was functioning at Tarapur Bazar but the owner decided to relocate his shop as consequence he had approached district excise department who asked him furnishing few documents and fulfilling legal formalities interestingly when the matter was pending the shop owner had relocated his shop hastily  as result locals and few rights activists including few anti liquor forums fumed the event and moved to state excise commissioner seeking action, who after patently hearing the allegations directed an deputy excise commissioner to conduct a probe. The deputed excise deputy commissioner D K Nag held an investigation two months ago and submitted his reports describing SI Lachhman Das is guilty allowing the shop owner for shifting, and the then district excise superintendent Pravhat Behera and inspector Abhya Panjar Sahoo acted behind this illegal drive. Basing on the report state excise commissioner suspended the alleged SI Lachhaman Das and ordered to conduct departmental proceedings against other two officers. [Ends]

 

Two arrested for dowry torture case.

JAGATSINGHPUR July 20. Acting on a dowry torture complaint Police on Friday arrested two persons and forwarded them to court. Report said that one laxmi Priya had married Bijaya Muduli a resident of village Salijanga village about five years ago, Laxmi Priya had brought dowry as desired by her in laws family during marriage despite that she had been allegedly tortured bringing more dowry as result victim Laxmi Priya’s father Sankarsana Khatua had lodged an FIR at Raghunathpur police station, responding the complaint police picked up victim Laxmipriya’s father in law and brother in law and forwarded them to court and other accused persons including husband and mother in law have been absconded from village, informed K P Patanaik , IIC Raghunathpur police station.

 

Septuagenarian man died in lightning.  

JAGATSINGHPUR  July 20.  A septuagenarian man Nimain Charan Sahoo hailing from Amberi village under Tirtol area died following lightning on Friday evening. Report said that the deceased was a marginal farmer who had gone to paddy field on occurrence evening, thunder clouds occurred suddenly as he was returning home lightning struck him on the way; locals rescued him from the paddy field and immediately sent to Manijanga hospital from treatment where doctor declared him brought dead. Administration holds meeting with Political parties for election booth reorganization.

JAGATSINGHPUR July 20.  The district civil administration held a meeting with members of different political parties with regard to election booth reorganization on Wednesday. District collector cum Election Officer Mr S K Mallick had chaired the meeting and disclosed about 8 lakh 22 thousand 570 voters have been enlisted as provisional electoral rolls published recently and as many as 47 thousand 755 voters name have been deleted from electoral rolls following their repeated voters identity in different locations and dead voters. Collector asked attending all political parties representatives that for smooth conducting elections a drive has been adopted for reorganizing the existing pooling booths across the district so members of political parties are advised to participate in the drive and free to give suggestion and relocation of any election booth till 22 July. However collector clarified that after taking suggestions from all the election stake holders a decision would be taken reorganizing the present booths, collector assured. The meeting was attended by political parties as Congress, BJP, BJD, CPI, CPIM, BSP and all senior officers of civil administration. [Ends]

 

Agriculturist passes away.

JAGATSINGHPUR  July 20. A renowned agriculturist and social activist Arjuna Charan Mohanty a resident of Itapada village six km away from here passed away on 12 July, he was 93 year old and survived 3 sons and 2 daughters. Deceased Mohanty had recognized in Jagatsinghpur district as a modern agriculturist by CRRI Cuttack in mid seventies and felicitated so also horticulture department had awarded prize for coconut cultivation. He was active till his death but suffering few old age decease but succumbed, many prominent persons including senior MLA Bishnu Das has expressed grief following death of Mohanty, his mortal had cremated in village crematorium and his eldest son Sarat Chandra Mohanty lit the pyre.
