Dalit organization fumes Minister Damodar Rout’s presence in district judge court inauguration, petitions Chief Justice HC.

JAGATSINGHPUR May 20. The state Health and family welfare minister Damodar Rout put in spate of controversy for his anti Dalit remarks again, as fresh development minister Rout had attended as a guest in district judge court inauguration ceremony held in district headquarters on Friday and shared dais with acting judge Odisha high court justice B K Mishra who attended the occasion as inaugurator and chief guest of the function.

The Ambedkar Dalit Bikash Parishad a Dalit organization working in Kujanga has expressed concern Minister Damodar Rout’s presence in the occasion and sharing dais with a high court judge and newly appointed district judge and other judicial officials. In this regard organization president Manoj Patra has petitioned chief justice Odisha high Court, state chief minister, and state law minister and law department seeking legality inviting him on the occasion.

Dalit leader Mr Patra in his petition has described minster Damodar Rout an alleged accused in two cases for his anti Dalit remarks against MLAs Bishnu Das, Ravi Bhoi and MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai and the then additional district magistrate Upendra Mallick, meanwhile Dama Babu has obtained bail from Kujanga court following instruction of High court and both the cases were pending in courts for final adjudication.

Mr Patra’s petition sought legality in the eyes of law allowing Minister Rout attending the function as guest when two cases were pending against him. However Mr Patra has expressed apprehension that Minister Rout’s cases likely be taken in to trail in Jagatsinghpur district judge court in near future during appeal, so the newly appointed district judge G C Behera too had attended as guest during the function and shared dais with minister Rout as it seems correct a judge and an alleged accused can be seated together in a function, Dalit leader Mr Patra’s petition questioned.

It is informative Minister Damodar Rout in two separate social functions held in Kujanga and Paradeep had delivered anti Dalit remarks against both Jagatsinghpur and Tirtol MLA’s including Jagatsinghpur MP and ADM Jagatsinghpur two years ago , the matter had created furor among the Dalit community across the country and National SC&ST commission had taken the matter promptly and the matter still pending for final disposal.
