Adivasi Mela – the ethnically cultural festival is one of the most attractive Agenda of SC & ST Development Department. The exhibition began right from the 26th January 1951, just one year after India, adopts its constitution to become a Republic. The exhibition got off the ground, in the erstwhile, state capital, Cuttack under the auspices of Tribal and Rural Welfare Department in 1951. With the shift of the department to Bhubaneswar, the exhibition changed its venue.
In Bhubaneswar The ground, popularly known as Adivasi Padia by the people. Each year the design and layout of the exhibition to make it more attractive to the people while the underlying concept of show casing the time tasted tribal culture. The theme of the Mela for the year 2012 is “Sustainable Development of Tribes”. This entire Adivasi Mela Ground has been fragmented into following segments for properly showcasing the tribal culture as well as developmental intervention undertaken by Govt. and Non Govt. sector.
The annual Adivasi exhibition has something special, which cannot be equal in any other. This prestigious Adivasi Exhibition used to get inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state and the meeting is presided by his Excellency the Governor of the state. The Chief Minister of the state always reserves time from his republic day schedule to spend some time with the tribal people.
